SUMMARY:"Yes\, in God’s Backyard" Learning Exchange and Future Forum
DESCRIPTION:The Lehigh Valley is facing a housing shortage coupled with a growing population. As faith communities across the region seek revitalization and missional realignment in the face of church decline\, this presents a unique opportunity to steward a future that builds communities of care.  With imagination and collaboration\, people of faith can come together and be leaders in addressing the housing needs of our neighbors:  property-owning faith communities can consider adaptive reuse and/or land development possibilities\, and other congregations can train and equip members as local housing advocates and supporters.  Saying “Yes\, In God’s Backyard” is both a powerful public expression of faith and a tangible way to live out our love of neighbor. \nOur YIGBY Learning Exchange and Future Forum aims to connect\, organize\, and resource people of faith and community leaders to continue early conversations about leveraging human and physical resources from across the region to make a noticeable\, positive impact on housing needs and municipal policy. \nLunch will be provided. \n\nForum Registration: Click Here \nForum Agenda: Click Here \n\nHousing Resources \nPolicyLink Housing Justice Narrative Toolkit: Click Here \nHousing Narrative Lab: Click Here \n

SUMMARY:Robert K. Campbell Memorial Lecture Series with Sue Yoder and Co.Lab.Inq.
DESCRIPTION:Revisioning Faith for the 21st Century featuring Sue Pizor Yoder and Co.Lab.Inq.\nApril 11th\, 2024 at DeSales University\n  \nCome join us for the 2024 Robert K. Campbell Memorial Lecture Series on Thursday\, April 11th featuring Sue Pizor Yoder and Co.Lab.Inq. \nHow are emerging generations making meaning in their lives? A team of eight scholars and ministry leaders from across the denominational spectrum formed Co.Lab.Inq\, a collective learning laboratory focused on open-ended inquiry\, to explore this question. Together they interviewed over 200 people under 40 in search of the lessons they might teach us about belonging\, adversity\, legacy – and faith. \nThrough collaborative storytelling conversations focused on truth-seeking and meaning-making\, Sue Pizor Yoder and her co-authors Bonnie Bates\, Brandon M. Heavner\, Joanne P. Marchetto\, Jill Peters\, Stephen Simmons\, Janet Stahl\, and James Stahl identify the complex and varied ways Millennials and Gen Z are navigating life and crafting their stories. What do younger Americans have to say about belonging? Where do they find meaning? What challenges are they facing–and how do they confront them? How do they envision their legacies? \nPizor Yoder and her colleagues were surprised to find that in addition to these questions\, their conversation partners also wanted to talk about faith–even when they didn’t identify with any religious tradition. Come and uncover with us both the critique and blessing we experienced for society and the church. \nCopies of their book\, “Hear Us Out: 6 Questions on Belonging and Belief” are available for purchase now. Click Here \n\nEvent Registration: Click Here\nEvent Flyer: Click Here

SUMMARY:Walk the Road of Peace -The 64th Annual Peace Pilgrimage
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to participate in this year’s Pilgrimage on Saturday\, Dec. 9th. The walk began in 1960 as a Christian witness for peace. We welcome all persons of any age to join the Pilgrimage\, symbolic of the journey of Mary and Joseph. During the 10-mile trek from Nazareth to Bethlehem\, Pennsylvania we seek to reflect the non-violent life of Jesus Christ and his truth of forgiving love. This has been a year of great violence and warfare and a witness for peace is particularly timely. For more information\, please access our website: peacewalk.org.

SUMMARY:Robert K. Campbell Memorial Lecture Series on Christian Unity featuring David LaMotte
DESCRIPTION:What’s Mine to Do? \nJoin us for The Lehigh Conference of Churches’ Robert K. Campbell Memorial Lecture and dinner\, small group meeting\, and concert Thursday\, March 31 and Friday\, April 1\, featuring David LaMotte. \nIn the lecture on Thursday\, March 31 at DeSales University\, David will engage us in the question “What’s Mine To Do?” based on his book\, “Worldchanging 101: Challenging the Myth of Powerlessness.” In a world full of want and injustice\, how do we determine what is ours to do\, and what is not? With our inboxes overflowing with requests for support\, and our media outlets constantly reminding us of the worst news from around the world\, how do we remain buoyant enough to function? In a politically divided time\, how do we maintain our principles\, while healing broken relationships? David doesn’t claim to have answers to all of these questions\, but he will offer some fresh framework that may shed light on the struggles to live as people of conscience\, and to have the most positive impact that we can\, rooted in his own experience and historical examples. \nOn Friday morning\, April 1\, at The Lehigh Conference of Churches\, we invite interested individuals to further engage in a dialogue around Thursday’s lecture. \nFriday evening will feature a concert with the original music of David LaMotte at First Presbyterian Church of Allentown. \nMasks are required at all events regardless of vaccination status. \nAbout David LaMotte \nDavid is an award-winning songwriter\, speaker\, author\, and activist. Having released 12 full-length CDs of primarily original music\, and performed 3000 concerts on 5 continents\, he suspended his successful music career in 2008 to accept a Rotary World Peace Fellowship\, earning a master’s degree in International Studies\, Peace\, and Conflict Resolution from the University of Queensland in Brisbane\, Australia. \nHis dense speaking and workshop calendar has included presenting at the PC (USA) Mission to the United Nations\, keynoting peace conferences in Berlin and at the Scottish Parliament\, as well as offering the baccalaureate for 2016 graduates of Columbia Seminary. As a keynote speaker\, and then Critical Conversations Coordinator\, he has facilitated conversations about race\, privilege\, and positive change for thousands of college students at the Montreat College Conference. \nHis next book\, tentatively titled\, “Harmony: What Music Can Teach Us About Peace Work\,” is based on his TEDx talk. David is excited to be in the studio finishing up his 13th solo album\, “Still”. It’s due for release in late spring of 2022.
