SUMMARY:Robert K. Campbell Memorial Lecture Series on Christian Unity featuring David LaMotte
DESCRIPTION:What’s Mine to Do? \nJoin us for The Lehigh Conference of Churches’ Robert K. Campbell Memorial Lecture and dinner\, small group meeting\, and concert Thursday\, March 31 and Friday\, April 1\, featuring David LaMotte. \nIn the lecture on Thursday\, March 31 at DeSales University\, David will engage us in the question “What’s Mine To Do?” based on his book\, “Worldchanging 101: Challenging the Myth of Powerlessness.” In a world full of want and injustice\, how do we determine what is ours to do\, and what is not? With our inboxes overflowing with requests for support\, and our media outlets constantly reminding us of the worst news from around the world\, how do we remain buoyant enough to function? In a politically divided time\, how do we maintain our principles\, while healing broken relationships? David doesn’t claim to have answers to all of these questions\, but he will offer some fresh framework that may shed light on the struggles to live as people of conscience\, and to have the most positive impact that we can\, rooted in his own experience and historical examples. \nOn Friday morning\, April 1\, at The Lehigh Conference of Churches\, we invite interested individuals to further engage in a dialogue around Thursday’s lecture. \nFriday evening will feature a concert with the original music of David LaMotte at First Presbyterian Church of Allentown. \nMasks are required at all events regardless of vaccination status. \nAbout David LaMotte \nDavid is an award-winning songwriter\, speaker\, author\, and activist. Having released 12 full-length CDs of primarily original music\, and performed 3000 concerts on 5 continents\, he suspended his successful music career in 2008 to accept a Rotary World Peace Fellowship\, earning a master’s degree in International Studies\, Peace\, and Conflict Resolution from the University of Queensland in Brisbane\, Australia. \nHis dense speaking and workshop calendar has included presenting at the PC (USA) Mission to the United Nations\, keynoting peace conferences in Berlin and at the Scottish Parliament\, as well as offering the baccalaureate for 2016 graduates of Columbia Seminary. As a keynote speaker\, and then Critical Conversations Coordinator\, he has facilitated conversations about race\, privilege\, and positive change for thousands of college students at the Montreat College Conference. \nHis next book\, tentatively titled\, “Harmony: What Music Can Teach Us About Peace Work\,” is based on his TEDx talk. David is excited to be in the studio finishing up his 13th solo album\, “Still”. It’s due for release in late spring of 2022.
