After Charleston: Hope in the Wake of a National Tragedy

March 7, 2017 @ 4:10 pm

The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebrations Committee Presents: A Talk and Discussion with Rev. Sharon Washington Risher

Rev. Sharon Washington Risher came to national prominence in the wake of the Charleston, S.C., shooting at the Mother Emanuel African Methodist Church on
June 15, 2015. Her mother, Ethel Lee Lance, also the Church’s sexton, was killed along with eight others, including two of her cousins and a childhood friend. Rev. Risher comes to Lehigh to share both her personal experience of losing loved ones to gun violence, racism and hate and her views on forgiveness and hope for creating a better,
more just world. Rev. Risher has become an outspoken champion for the grassroots advocacy groups Everytown and Moms Demand Gun Sense.
